Dual-band, Dynamically Tunable Plasmonic Metamaterial Absorbers Based on Graphene for Terahertz Frequencies
In this paper, a compact plasmonic metamaterial absorber for terahertz frequencies is proposed and simulated. The absorber is based on metamaterial graphene structures, and benefits from dynamically controllable properties of graphene. Through patterning graphene layers, plasmonic resonances are tailored to provide a dual band as well as an improved bandwidth absorption. Unit cell of the design...
متن کاملLarge-Area Metasurface Perfect Absorbers from Visible to Near-Infrared.
An absorptive metasurface based on film-coupled colloidal silver nanocubes is demonstrated. The metasurfaces are fabricated using simple dip-coating methods and can be deposited over large areas and on arbitrarily shaped objects. The surfaces show nearly complete absorption, good off-angle performance, and the resonance can be tuned from the visible to the near-infrared.
متن کاملNoise properties of coherent perfect absorbers and critically coupled resonators
The performance of a coherent perfect absorber (time-reversed laser) is limited by quantum and thermal noise. At zero temperature, the quantum shot noise dominates the signal for frequencies close to the resonance frequency and both vanish exactly at the resonance frequency. We compute the sensitivity of the absorbing cavity as a background-free detector, limited by finite signal or detector ba...
متن کاملElectrically tunable perfect light absorbers as color filters and modulators
Methods for spectrally controlling light absorption in optoelectronic devices have attracted considerable attention in recent years. It is now well known that a Fabry-Perot nanocavity comprising thin semiconductor and metal films can be used to absorb light at selected wavelengths. The absorption wavelength is controlled by tailoring the thickness of the nanocavity and also by nanostructure pat...
متن کاملExtrinsic chirality: Tunable optically active reflectors and perfect absorbers
Conventional three-dimensionally (3D) chiral media can exhibit optical activity for transmitted waves, but optical activity for reflected waves is negligible. This work shows that mirror asymmetry of the experimental arrangement extrinsic 3D chirality leads to giant optical activity for reflected waves with fundamentally different characteristics. It is demonstrated experimentally that extrinsi...
